Activity 3


For the last two class periods, we have been working diligently to translate sections of Othello into our own language. Several examples of language you could choose to work with were as follows:

-Standardized Modern English

-Everyday speech

-African American vernacular

-Slang

-1920’s gangsters

-Surfer speech

-Make your own

    Original: "To be, or not to be. That is the question!"

    Translation - Standardized: "Should I kill myself, or not? That's what I keep asking!"

    There seems to be too many re-writes of "Hamlet," what about "Othello?"

  2. I suppose there are a lot of studies out there about how the English language has evolved over time. The other answers have given you links to site the canadian business review with this kind of material, so you could do a web search for it.
